Today, England! Tomorrow, THE WORLD!

So, my internet, I have long promised you details of my Tour Through England. Well, next week is going to be a most excellent week.

This Sunday I will be meeting up with the lovely Scott Westerfeld and the lovelier Justine Larbalestier (sorry for impugning your loveliness there, Scott) and we will all travel about the land doing school visits and dinners with bloggers and being filmed and ALSO, doing events open to the public!

The Event That Is All Me - And Robert Downey Junior. On Film.

On Tuesday 15th June

6.30pm Murder One Launch – signing starts at 6.30pm, Q&A at 7:30, film (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) at 8pm

Shortwave Cinema
10 Bermondsey Square
London SE1 3UN

0207 357 6845 info@shortwavefilms.co.uk

Contact: Trisha Telep (Murder One) trisha@murderone.co.uk

Ticket price is the copy of the book (available in the UK on May 27th) plus 51p for the PayPal charges (so the total is £7.50). Please email trisha@murderone.co.uk to pay by credit card and receive your e-ticket.

(If you are credit cardless or unsure about booking, just come! None will be turned away.)

Secret stuff: There also might be a raffle for an Advance Reader’s Copy of Kiss Me Deadly, the sequel short story collection to last year’s The Eternal Kiss. Like the previous book, it is full of amazing authors – including our very own Sarah Rees Brennan and Karen Mahoney, plus Maggie Stiefvater, Becca Fitzpatrick, Daniel Waters, Carrie Ryan, Diana Peterfreund, Michelle Rowen, Caitlin Kittredge, Justine Musk, Rachel Vincent, Michelle Zink, and Daniel Marks!

As you can see, I could not resist choosing a film with a pink-haired lady and Robert Downey Junior in it. I loved my first film event a lot, and am thrilled at the thought of having lots of time to talk to people who come, chatter about the books, give out posters and spoilers, and the like.

Further details to be found here.

The Event With the Vampire Queen

And on Saturday 19th June

SUMMER SCREAM panel and signing with, among many fabulous others, the wondrous fellow Smart Chick Rachel Caine.

Foyles
113-119 Charing Cross Road
London WC2H 0EB

With full details to be found here, about stuff you can win!

I simply love Foyles, which is I think the best bookshop in London, and they have asked me as part of the Summer Scream to help make a display of my favourite books, which perhaps you will see if you come to see us! And then there is also the fact I have never been referred to as a Demon Tamer Extraordinaire before. I like it.

I hope you guys can make it to one or both events!

It is my only SOLO EVENT of the year, and thus I am very nervous about it. I will appreciate Robert Downey Jnr's support!

Hurray! Well, you know, I wanted to be totally clear, as if anyone really expected Robert Downey Jnr in the flesh I think they would be totally justified in, er, killing me. ;)

I'm pretty sure you mentioned it once but for the heck of it I can't find it. Do you have any idea when Convenant will be available in Germany (in German) cause I'm asuming Austria will have the same date?

I'm afraid I don't know yet, no. We're changing the look for the series in Germany, and so it may be a little while.

I will be there on Tuesday with my sister, hopefully (A level exams be damned!) but I'm still a little confused about the tickets! Sorry for my general stupidity. If I already own the book (which I do and just adore!) would I still be able to turn up and get it signed without getting an e-ticket? Am credit card-less at the moment, but would very much like to be there!

I fear you may have to buy something (maybe the Eternal Kiss?) as part of the paying for the movie/venue but you can totally do so there, you do not need a credit card! Definitely do come, both of you, I shall be delighted to see you. :)

Do you know when you'll be in the States again? Is there a place with tour dates listed for the Smart Chicks Kick It tour? I want you all to come to Portland, Oregon!

Jun. 8th, 2010 06:12 pm (UTC)
Yep - just follow the link from 'fellow Smart Chick Rachel Caine.' I already hit Portland and liked it a lot. ;)

Ooh exciting excitement! :D I am currently Unsure as to whether I can make it to your signing due to living much further from London than I used to and therefore needing to stay there overnight if I'm coming, but hopefully I will be able to sort that and shall be there!

I am slightly confused about the ticket thing though. Can you pay with a debit card or does it have to be a credit card? Also, if we buy a ticket do we automatically get a copy of the book? Because I already have one! Can we get a different book instead? I have never managed to pick up Eternal Kiss for example...

I would *love* to come to the 19th event but sadly will be very busy moving out of university that day!

*obligatory childish squeal over RDJ*

I think a debit card would be fine, and also I think buying Eternal Kiss would be fine, and also just coming and buying Eternal Kiss would also... be fine! Everything is fine, including the word 'also.' Would be lovely to see you there!

I am very jealous of this film event! Both because I love Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and because I wish I could go to the store and buy the British covers. The American ones are lovely, of course, but the British ones make me flail a little in their wonderfulness.

Perhaps when the series is finished and all out in paperback I will bribe one of my British friends to send me the lot of them. (Also to make space on my bookshelf. I like supporting authors by buying hardbacks, but I do not like the space they take up. Also also I have tiny hands and so holding open hardbacks for hours at a time makes them ache. Because clearly I am hardcore in my reading habits.)

I want to come so very much on the Tuesday. Demon's Convenant and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang = both things I love. But I'm Leeds. Maybe I could commute...

You mention travelling the land. Are the London events the only ones open to the public?

I fell in love with Foyles back in 1972, when I'd spend all day there, carefully selecting a book or two to buy instead of eating. (I was on a very strict fifty cents a day budget--either I ate, or I got a book and skipped my daily meal. Luckily I was used to skipping meals.) Oh Foyles I am so glad you are still there.

I'm going to try to make it to the Tuesday event. I wish I could come to the Foyle's event, as I, too, love that bookshop, but I'll be in Cardiff on that weekend.

My keyboards broken at the mo, so this is taking ages, but i HAVE to know if you're ever gonna come down to Brighton for an event at all. It must be done! We're all so literary and fantastic here!

Can't wait to read the book!

I go where my publisher sends me or bookshops ask for me, but sure, I'd love to come to Brighton. ;)

I was in London last month...How I wish I had timed my trip better! I, too, love Foyle's, and spent too much money there and had to lug home my weight's worth in books.

I wish you the best for your solo event. I am sure you will be just as charming and witty in person as you are on paper (on screen..?) I do hope you are able to come tour Vancouver, Canada someday :)

Thanks again for the book plate at Joseph Beth in Cincinnati-- I meant to write and tell you that it (not the original hardcover picture) has made you a new fan. Wee Hob, aged 15, eagerly devoured Lexicon despite the cover art of the hardcover edition, and has just finished Covenant.

It was a joy meeting you in person and meeting Holly Black (and her books) for the first time.

That is very awesome that the bookstore wants you to make a display of your favorite books. I wish people would ask me to go into their stores and make displays of my favorite books. As a librarian, you'd think I could make displays of my favorite books all the time, but then I feel professionally compelled to include books that would probably appeal to my patrons that I haven't the slightest interest in, so it's not the same thing. Now, I know you talk about books which are Your Favorites all the time (one of the reasons I friended you was that we apparently share so many favorite books!), but have you ever made a straightforward list of your favorites? That is a terrible, terrible job if it has a number limit, I know, but maybe not so bad if it doesn't have a limit. Will you share the books that you included in this display after the fact, maybe, for people who are not likely to make it to a bookshop on the other side of the ocean in person? I really like lists of favorite books...

Commenting solely to say that I have just started reading the Demon's Covenant and it's like a box of chocolates... I do love your dialogue so very much. And Nick's mighty powers of sarcasm.

Also, it goes surprisingly well read in chapters alternating with sections of the autobiography of St Teresa of Avila. You really wouldn't think so, but somehow they enhance each other (while also providing a certain theological whiplash effect).

Regards,

Catherine

This is definitely the strangest take on TDL I've read. I don't mean that in a bad way. Any chance you could give us a few more details? I'd be genuinely interested to see what specific correlations you can see. ( Would also be interested to know what Sarah's reaction to your observation is. Don't be shy in letting us know, Sarah! ;) )

I'm in australia and I ordered your book online. Received it yesterday and have been reading it ever since. It's fantastic and so witty and clever!! I have laughed at so many moments and been stunned in anticipation at the moments you've created between characters! I'll be sad when this book ends and I have to wait for your next book :(

The image of you as a Demon Tamer in a circus cannot be erased from my mind. Please to turn up in leathers and a whip with a fiesty dark-eyed boy traipsing sullenly behind you *ahem* (and surely, the red-headed boy trailing you both could be talked out of killing you. Probably.)

Have fun!
