So queen of excellence Holly Black and I have set ourselves up a tour throughout England, for my Untold and for Holly’s amazing, incredible, accept-no-substitutes The Coldest Girl In Coldtown. I am super excited–a tour through England hitting non-London places! New people and their shining faces! Holly is an amazebot. I hope to see you guys there! We start off at World Fantasy in Brighton, where we do a kaffeeklatsch together (as I understand it, Holly says wise things and I throw cronuts at people’s heads with pinpoint accuracy) and then we go on… to ADVENTURE!

Monday 4th November

Dark Mirrors: Gothic Fiction with Holly Black and Sarah Ress Brennan

Where: Foyles, Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0EB

When: 6.30pm-7.30pm

Tickets: Free, but booking is essential. To book tickets, email events@foyles.co.uk or call 020 7437 5660

More info: http://www.foyles.co.uk/Dark-Mirrors

Tonight we journey to dark places with two of the biggest names in teen fantasy. The walled cities known as Coldtowns are the hellish creation of Holly Black, author of The Spiderwick Chronicles and now The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. Within them, quarantined monsters mingle with humans in a neverending, decadently bloody party, which, in an all-too-recognisable twist, is shown on TV 24 hours a day.

Kami Glass’s hometown of Sorry-in-the-Vale, the setting for the new novel by Sarah Rees Brennan, Untold, plays host to an uneasy blend of natural and supernatural. Conflict threatens to bubble over at every turn between the non-magical townspeople and the sorcerers who yearn to rule over them – and seventeen-year-old Kami faces her own internal conflict, as the sorcerer she’s been bound to for her entire life is torn from her.
Join us to find out for yourself how these two inspirational authors create their magical worlds, unforgettable characters and breathtaking stories, and hear their tips for creating a gothic novel of your own.

(Foyles is amazing, so I am excite!)

(I have never been in England on Bonfire Night before. I hope people will come talk to us and tell us where to go after! Take us to the bonfire, we’re the kind of girls who like that kind of thing! DO NOT PUT ME IN THE BONFIRE, even though I have two different coloured eyes and am clearly a witch. Likewise I have an eleventh toe, but I shall keep it in my purse for decency’s sake.)

(I am EXTREMELY excited about this one, as my mama is from Liverpool, and my grandpa worked on the Liverpool docks with Brian Jacques all his life–not specifically all his life with Brian Jacques, the dude was too busy writing awesome mice adventure novels–and my aunt and my cousins still live there. I have never done an event in Liverpool! LIVERPOOL, I EMBRACE YOU.)

Hi Sarah! It was a pleasure to see you and Holly Black this evening at Foyles! I don't have tumblr, so I'm just going to fangirl a little over here and maybe that'll work to encourage more people to come and meet you at book shops and shower you with love and gifts :-)

Loved loved loved your reading of the excerpt from LL3 - I was telling my husband about it over the phone, and was all, "So Sarah read this bit about this character who is buried alive, and who is maybe being sliced open for human sacrifice, and she emphasized his bare shoulder and also bare stomach and it was hot! Wait, I feel confused. Why do I find human sacrifice hot? I feel like my emotions have been manipulated. But it was so great!!!!"

Thank you also for a fantabulous copy of Defy the Dark!!!! I am so sorry for lowering the tone of the session with my question about who will Rusty kiss, when everyone else was asking intelligent questions like do you follow your planned plots, how to overcome writer's block etc. In my defense, I was the first person to ask a question and had no benchmark... Thanks for taking my question seriously anyway :-)

I had not read Holly Black, and found her super funny and genuine lady in person, so now I have another author to read :) And I met some really cool people in the audience! I find it difficult to find and meet book lovers who like to talk and talk and talk about the books they love, so I am overjoyed. We exchanged emails and all~

Finally, thanks also for signing my copies of the TDL2 and TDL3 (I have Unspoken and Untold too, but they are e-books and not so signable!). And for allowing me to tell you about my shipping Lusty and advice on writing YA. Really proud to be a fan of such a sassy and talented author :-)

Yay for more you in the UK. You should hit me up whilst you're in Brighton. *nods* I know where all the cool kids hang out. (This is a lie. I know where I hang out. My coolness is questionable.)

There are all kinds of vintage shops! And ones where they make dresses. And entire shops full of tiny things to go on cakes. There is also a place where they serve you cocktails in a treasure chest.

I was just sitting here poised on the very verge of posting "If I didn't live in California now I would so be coming to see you at Seven Stories" - and then I thought, "Oh, wait! That's the week after WFC! I will be in Newcastle! I can go!" - aaand then I thought, "Oh wait, we're in Durham that evening," so I can't. Damnitall.

Come to California?

Yaaay! you're coming to my home town (Leeds). Gunna have to make a note of this...though on the bonfire front, the one in the park at the end of my street kicks off at 7pm with the fire work display at 7:30, unless you can see it from town I imagine you'll miss it :(

That said get some Parkin <- a Yorkshire 'bonfire night time of year' thing :)

Hey! jiggery_pokery and I are both miraculously free on the evening of Wednesday 6th - and I never pass up a chance to visit Seven Stories (actually, your name came up last time I was there with a group of Year 7s and the staff were VERY enthusiastic about your previous visit!) so we will see you both then!

I'll phone SS and book the tickets Thursday - I actually need to phone them about something else anyway so that will remind me. When do y'all leave for Liverpool? If you want to grab dinner afterwards and catch up I know a place that does boozy milkshakes.... ;)

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement?
My website has a lot of unique content I've either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet
without my authorization. Do you know any solutions
to help prevent content from being ripped off? I'd truly appreciate it.

Hey,

I stay out of the comments on bits of the internet I haven't thoroughly vetted first, but I wanted to say that I thought your article on The Toast was good and important. Also, I like your excited geeky babbling.
