Unmade, the last of the Lynburn Legacy trilogy, is out today (Yes that IS a shameless amazon link but if you have a local indie I love you for supporting it!) and I have had the beautiful Cassandra Jean make me a poster for its release, like a movie! A movie with a darkly ominous tagline.

(Our Characters, from the front left and proceeding: Jared Lynburn, Kami Glass, Ash Lynburn, Holly Prescott, Ten Glass, Tomo Glass, Angela Montgomery, Rusty Montgomery, Lillian Lynburn and Jon Glass, Team Good… ish… and Team May Be Marked For Death. You’re welcome, y’all!)

I am also doing a blog tour, so look out for my various posts on various subjects around the web. The writing advice post where I talk about cocaine may, in retrospect, have been an error.

This post is not JUST a showing off of beautimous pictures and sharing my love for y’all. It is, since this is Unmade release day, the place where you can discuss Unmade spoilers of any kind and ask me questions of any kind, though since the book is new it would be super appreciated as in the last post if the spoilers were signalled by a line of stars!

  • And I wanted to give you guys a present to celebrate Release Day, but wasn’t quite sure what you would like, so like a DJ and since–wow, hey, two trilogies done, give me five, I am a grown-up writer lady–this is a special occasion, I thought I would take requests.

So tonight, I am at your service. Ask for a little story about any characters you want. Any characters or stories that are exclusively mine, that is: I couldn’t do anyone from The Bane Chronicles without Cassie and Maureen’s input or from Team Human without Justine’s. (EDIT: NOW CLOSED.)

I hope you’ll like Unmade! Thank you for suffering through the series. (I know you were suffering because you TOLD me so, and I ENJOYED it.)

It's not here yet! *sobs* We had to order it, and we paid for realease-day delivery, but the mail has come and gone and no book. So I am sitting here wailing and gnashing my teeth, and will close my eyes when I submit this comment just in case.

I have finished my reread of the first two books, though, and love them all more than ever.

A story, hmm? Is TotS allowed? If it is, I will be shameless and ask for Elliot and Luke, because I am trying hard not to think about Kami and Jared too much today. If not, I will ask for Holly and Angela, but I won't read it until the book gets here!

Congratulations on releasing the last installment of your second, wonderfully fabulous trilogy!

OMG the cocaine post was AWESOME! :)

Not sure. Maybe an Angela story?

I'm so excited! I am at work and it should be being delivered to my house soon. Super excited (and also terrified).

Because it is on my mind, would you be so kind to treat us to Serene and Golden? I would like to hear more about their elvish ways. :)
    Sep. 25th, 2014 12:02 pm (UTC)
Although I have already made my own request, I would also like to second the nomination of Serene and Golden. Because of reasons.

(Really, though, I want to second ALL the requests, but I couldn't resist saying so on this one ;)

You had a great review at Tor.com today today; congratulations!

I miss Nick Ryves--any chance of a story for him?

I am so glad they liked it, but I think Kami would hate Dumbledore so his opinion of her would be irrelevant. ;) (Oh, HP characters, how can I miss you when people won't ever quit talking about you.) And I am ruefully amused that they denigrate romance to the point of saying Kami is exotified (!!!!) because she's desired by more than one person ever (horrors, 2 MUCH Romance), while quoting the bit of my book... talking about how people denigrate romance! (Holly's desired by four people, but is it more usual to see the blonde beauty desired?) Still I am very pleased they liked the book overall, liked my beloved Kami, liked the romances despite their uh, romanticness, and see the horror behind humour and sometimes the horror behind romance, and support wit and LGBTQ storylines. So--overall yay, and thank you for linking me, you are a sweet.

Nick Ryves it is. Except maybe... not really. This is the story that popped into my head. I hope it counts! I don't actually need to do the spoiler stars because... none of this ever actually happened, but here's one star for luck. It is SO LONG. I must work on making them shorter. ;)

Laura would have thought that untold power came without the need for bureaucracy. Sadly, this was not so. On one hand, that suited Laura: the efficient running of a country was more her speed than sitting cackling over her mastery of the cosmos.

Still, it was frustrating that her leader was so entirely lousy at it, and Laura was left with a teeming mass of magicians, rebels, demons and general whiners on her hands.

She was now in the process of walking the new staff through the demon dwelling.

It had once been the palace, fit for queens and princes, but it had been a long time since any queen or prince walked these halls. The gardens had been torn away when Hnikarr ripped a hole almost through to his home world: now through the tall glittering windows all there was to be seen were swirling shadows and a terrible absence of sound, as if silence was whispering to itself about you.

There were stormclouds wrapped around the roofs, but there were storms all over the city.

Once there had been many demons here, but they had scattered the world over, wayward willful things that they were. Now the only ones regularly found here was the first demon and his two most constant companions. Even Anzu was rarely in the palace any more. Fearful and thrilled people took pictures of it sometimes and put them up online: on mountaintops amid white heather, wandering through lavender near the Loire valley with feathers falling from its hair.

Hnikarr, the first, was always there, on one of the high carven thrones, like a ghost in the house. Laura found it terrifying that there was nowhere in the world it seemed to want to go. There was something casual about the way it regarded the world: as if the world was a china ornament someone had given it as a present but which it didn’t like much, and every day it looked at the world and considered accidentally on purpose knocking it off its precarious position. Pieces shattered all over the floor, and in Hnikarr’s view, problem solved.

Laura lay awake at night sometimes, thinking about that. But then she got up the next morning and went about her business.

“Now as we approach the throne room,” she said to the line of staff, “Remember that you want to be quiet, respectful and not attract notice.”

Liannan was due a new body any day. It was so disastrous when it took a member of the staff: such a waste of training and Laura’s valuable time. Why could it not take a body off the street? There were plenty. (ctd.)

Something with Ash at uni possibly? I'd love to see how his life is after Unmade

    Happy book day!
As I mentioned on Twitter, and have in fact been wailing about, on all my social networks, my copy of Unmade won't be here till October. Thank Glod for the Kindle store, is all I'm saying.

My request is for a little story about everyone's favourite grouchy redhead and also Serene and Luke, because they may actually be my favourite characters ever written! (I see someone asked about Serene and Golden and I could definitely get behind that, because Golden seems like a gentleman who could bring all the sass to the table, in a very Shakespearean kind of way - the Beatrice to Serene's Benedick) In fact, a story about all four of them (Serene and Luke and Elliot and Golden) would be perfect!

(also I finally got to read Wings in the Morning last night and I am still not over how perfect and awesome it is!)
    Sep. 23rd, 2014 07:10 pm (UTC)
    Also Stories!
I'd love to hear more about Mae and/or Jamie.

Or Kami, Angela, and Holly, always. ;)

OMG, that poster is fabulous. Jon Glass, you sexy dad. I can see why Lillian finally remembered your name. I can't wait to read Unmade--going to have to wait til work is done, alas.

You are so kind with presents for your readers. Since I can't legit suggest "all of them!" I am just going to sit back and be happy with whatever you write.
    Sep. 23rd, 2014 10:25 pm (UTC)
Aw, that is very kind. I have written one TDL one with more to go. ;)

I confess, I'd remember Jon Glass's name. Yowza!

Oh my gosh. ALAN AND SIN PLEASE????

    (This is Felicity Disco. Hi!)
    Sep. 23rd, 2014 07:27 pm (UTC)
I love the poster! Especially how it says 'sacrifice' to trick us into thinking there's only going to be one.

Though it breaks my heart to do it, I have to mute you on Twitter, because I am extremely spolier-adverse (and yet I follow you on Twitter? This makes no sense!) but it is only until I can obtain and read your latest marvelous, pain-filled work. It's like you baked a delicious cake and put fish hooks in the batter, but since you clearly label it as Fish Hook Cake, we have only ourselves to blame for the resulting tears.

As I have already seen at least one astute and tasteful reader request Angela, I will instead select Jon Glass's mother (her name eludes me and I haven't the first first book at hand). She seems like a great lady and though I think we got a bit of her in TSBIMY, I would like more. This is assuming she does not return in Unmade as an Onryo though if that does happen I will be very surprised and even more delighted.

    I Read Way To Fast!
I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for this lovely pic commissioned from CJ! I got Unmade last night and already finished it! It's amazing! Like you! XoXo

PS. Who is older Ash or Jared? How close r they in age? Is Rob really Jareds dad? He still seems unsure if he and Ash r really blood brothers. Thx

RUSTY PLEASE! Possibly Rusty and Angela meet Nick. But just Rusty is good too!

I am so excited for this - Unmade is ready and waiting for me on my kindle for the moment I get off work, and several pints of ice cream are in the freezer for me to drown in my tears afterwards. Or during. Or both.

    Finally, the poster is BEAUTIFUL.

Angela meets Nick. Possibly with Mae or Elliot or someone diplomatic trying to make them engage in polite conversation.

I know it is multiple series, but it would be hilarious.
    Sep. 23rd, 2014 11:43 pm (UTC)
Not quite, but how I figure them meeting would go... pre either series, naturally.

Nick waited until the little one with the great boobs had gone to the bar, and approached the one with the gorgeous murderous face. He'd heard her friend call her Angela, he thought.

"Not interested," she said, stabbing him with her eyes. Her pupils really did seem like knifepoints.

    Nick grinned. "Sure?"

"Oh no, I made a mistake, take me now, you irresistible hunk of something unmentionable," Angela drawled, her voice perfectly flat.

Nick tilted his head. She really wasn't interested at all. He was good at judging that sort of thing. He wouldn't have bothered with asking a second time, except...

"Just liked your style," he said.

"Just could not care less," Angela snapped.

Nick shrugged. Angela rolled her eyes and turned her back. Nick turned away in turn but grinned again as he did so.

Kami was bouncing on her toes trying to attract the attention of a bartender when the tall redhead next to her spoke up.

"I'm sorry for whatever terrible thing my brother is saying to your friend," he said, nodding in the direction of Angela and a dark-haired guy.

Kami blinked. "Well... I'm sorry for whatever terrible thing my friend is saying to your brother."

The redheaded guy laughed, as if he instantly and perfectly understood. Kami found herself smiling at him.

"Hi, I'm Alan," he said. "Odd question. Do you read at all?"

"I'm addicted to crime fiction," Kami said with enthusiasm. "I want to be a journalist and do a degree in Cambridge which will start out in--"

She stopped. "No really, please go on," Alan urged her sincerely, but then the vision Kami had seen over his shoulder was in their midst.

"COME ON KAMI, WE'RE LEAVING," said Angela.

Kami smiled at Alan for the second and last time. "Sorry."

Congratulations Sarah for the second trilogy completed! So awesome!

I love them both so much, but since I only got Unmade today and am still reading it, I can't do a proper evaluation on which character I would like read more of, so instead I wish something with Alan and Nick, preferably post Demon's Surrender, because I'd love to now how those crazy brother are doing. And I wouldn't mind if the awesome ladies were there too.. ;)

I'd love to read more about Lilian and Edmund!! :)

I'm so happy Unmade is here and I can't wait to read it! Also that drawing is awesome.

If I may humbly suggest a story about Alan and Sin (because they are beautiful liars and I love them). Or maybe we could see some of Luke and Elliot now that they are a bonafide couple?
    Sep. 23rd, 2014 09:22 pm (UTC)
Congratulations Sarah!! I can't wait to read Unmade.

As for requests, I would love to see some more Jamie and Seb!

Oooo, I don't suppose you would be willing to write a little snippet of Adara from tots ~in the future~ and hopefully finding happiness?

I'm not sure why the shipping service keeps insisting on putting books in the mailbox -- they don't actually fit properly and I don't check it regularly -- but UNMADE IS NOW IN MY HANDS best birthday present ever =D I'm so excited to read it!!!!!
    Sep. 24th, 2014 04:53 am (UTC)
I've now read Unmade and, well.

I honestly cried from chapter 18 on, with varying levels of ferocity. Every time I thought I'd found some equalibrium again something else would happen that set me off again. It wasn't all sad crying! But there was a lot of it.

I loved so much about the lynburn legacy, but honestly Holly Prescott is my fav fav fav. I love her so much -- how she's painfully insecure and doesn't value the things she's not insecure about, but how she's kind as she can be and brave when it matters and she does her best for the people she loves even when she's terrified that she might fail them. How she's grown from the beginning of Unspoken, her struggle with her attraction to Angela that she works through until they are ADORABLE GIRLFRIENDS, how she uses the magic she's afraid to have because she wants to help, (and I loved how nobody gave her a hard time for hiding it initially!!!!) How she finds the strength to stand up to her often terrible parents! Just, Holly Prescott <3

RUSTY. Rusty was my favorite dude and as absolutely heartbreaking as chapter 18 (and chapter 17, because I saw what he was about to do and NO RUSTY) was I really loved him even more after this. It made so much painful sense that Rusty, who has always been a protective/nurturing figure, would be the one to make such a choice. And then him telling Kami to stay with Angela but not knowing that Kami isn't even sure she'll survive :O

Another thing that made me cry was before the pool ceremony, when Jared made the choice to try and survive no matter what happened and I was just so thrilled and sad at the same time, that Jared found things to live for other than Kami. Sad because he didn't, earlier in the series, and he had to struggle to reach that point but thrilled because HEALTHY CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER PEOPLE, A+ Jared I honestly worried about his ability to do that. The lynburn trio was also great, and the way that ash and Jared finally came to an understanding with each other after all of the antagonism of their first few months and BROTHERS (probably) and Jared admitting that he loves Ash! And Lillian calling them both her sons and also her line "Rosalind was real to me!" was heartbreaking because UGH ROB UR THE WORST.

Kami! Kami Glass! I love her and her refusal to be cowed, and her wholehearted belief that they can somehow triumph, and her determination and her sass and her love that not only drives her to save others but inspired the people around her (sobbbbbb Jared's speech to rusty about kami's people being his people) and her refusal to back away from the truth even when the truth is so painful. The ride around sorry-in-the-vale also made me cry because KAMI CALLING UPON THE MAGIC OF THE DEAD WHO ALSO LOVED THE TOWN. And even though I was sooooo angry at Claire for what she said to Kami in the beginning pages, Kami's reunion with her was so great, because even though Kami might have wanted to give up, she believed that she could find a way to save her mom and she did. Kami's belief in herself even in the face of ridiculous odds is so amazing and important and lovely.

Also THE GLASS FAMILY. Everything about the glass family! POOR TEN. I was super struck by Holly's assessment that Ten was cold rather than sweet, after what he'd been through, because I don't think Kami has enough distance to see that. Jon's persistence in calling Lillian by the wrong name was GREAT and I was so glad that carried over, and also how he tried so hard and couldn't bring himself to kill Rob, even when he had the chance (and Claire, too -- it was interesting when juxtaposed with Kami's earlier ruthlessness with Amber earlier, but Kami has been fighting this whole time, and her parents haven't -- I wonder if that was part of it?)

I really loved how Kami's newspaper, this project that she and Angela and Jared and Holly and Ash started back when (most of them) didn't know or understand what was going on, came full circle in the end and helped them INCITE A REBELLION.

I'm so glad that these books exist. <3 Thank you for writing them!

Oh Great and Terrible Sarah, please accept my humble thanks and many tears in tribute for Unmade.
Would it be possible to see some Teen!Ten, and how he deals with what is surely a pretty bad case of PTSD? I know that begging is futile, but I just want the poor precious munchkin to be happy. Although since he has to follow in Jared's wake, impressing the family with the depth and quality of his adolescent brooding would be...difficult. That's some stiff competition.

Thank you so, so much for your generosity in this and all other things.
    Sep. 24th, 2014 02:51 am (UTC)
I gratefully accept your tears and thank you for them! And actually, of course, since I once dreamed a dream of writing a trilogy per Glass sibling, I TOTES KNOW what happens to Teen!Ten and am glad to be asked. ;)

Chana thought the shut-up Brompton Road station was the best hideaway they’d ever had. It was secure, built to last, and some of it was even specifically set up for fighters.

The station had been abandoned and then part of it sold off to the Ministry of Defence during World War I. One of the lift shafts had been converted into four operation rooms, and they planned the descent upon the source in there.

They’d received word that a source from the countryside had been invited to London to be wined, dined and wooed. The word was she or he was young and impressionable, which suited the sorcerers but would also suit them. This source would be easy to deceive, and that meant they’d be easy to trap.

“I know you want to be there when we take in sources,” Chana told Ten Aquinas, her second in command. “I do. I wish you could be. But I need to have the—I need to have someone I trust there to take care of the children.”

The kids all slept in one room, behind a metal door marked DANGER AMMUNITION in glaring red letters. They took turns to guard it, but having Hamish guard the door when Chana was sleeping in the next room and having him guard it when she was miles away, too far for a scream to reach her or for her to reach them… it had to be Ten.

They’d dragged in a sagging old sofa, abandoned on the roadside. Ten sat on it in his usual bubble of solitude, never indicating he wanted to be left alone by word or deed and yet somehow never squashed up on the sofa with anyone. Hamish was sitting on the floor.

She’d expected him to complain. Ten was a good soldier, same as she was. But he nodded. He knew that a mission to win someone over or mingle with a large group wasn’t his sort of thing, anyway.

Before she left the room, she heard him make a soft sound: she turned and saw him still looking at the age-blackened cement, his chestnut head bowed, his long lean back taut as a bow: his whole body muscle and not enough flesh, thin and ropy as they all were from too much fighting and not much to eat, and Ten always the worst off because he lived on his nerves, on the bitter edge. His hands were linked and straining, each hand against the other, as if he was trying to escape chains.

“Good luck,” he told her: an added note of grace she had not expected, and which was all the sweeter for that.

They went out through the black door into Cottage Place, where the bricks around the entrance were blood-red and shiny as if they had been lacquered.

Chana looked around to make sure nobody had seen them emerge, then nodded to Hamish and Andy, said a quick mental prayer for travelling and safe return to those she loved, and strode off on her way.

Once there had been so many of them. Now it was her, Andy, Hamish and Ten, the kids too young to be anything but an extra worry, against a legion of sorcerers.

That did not mean they could let a source fall into their hands.

I just got my shipping notification from Booktopia (Australian online bookstore), so it should be on my doorstep when I get home.

This story-request-thing is difficult, because I have so many characters I love over the two trilogies. I'd love to see something with Sin or Holly, since they're my absolute faves.

My main request would be for something happy, if you please, since I'm quite sure you intend to devastate us all with Unmade.

Thank you for the wonderful (and painful) Lynburn Legacy.

Hi, Sarah! Can't wait to read Unmade! I hope I'm not too late to request something. I'd love to see more of Adara from Turn of the Story. Thanks for being so generally awesome. :)

    Congratulations, you fabulous writer!

Thank you for the great book that is Unmade!

I already read Unmade, I got it at a signing at Water stones, I gloat and gloat!

And then I stop gloating, because I cried alone. *sniffle*

Also: How could you, Kami's carefully collected wardrobe of awesome. It made me sad she had to lose it. ( I am wearing leggings with flowers on them and a dress with butterflies on it today, Kami is a style inspiration to me).

I had guessed that Holly and Angela would survive, because I expect you are aware of the dead lesbian trope and you see a trope, you subvert, am I right? Also I suspect you've heard Lashings Of Ginger Beer Time's 'dead girlfriend' song, it's on youtube. But I am glad that not only did they survive, they also got together. <3

I could see that Ash *could* have died too, but he didn't! So thanks for that.
And especially thank you for giving Jared happiness and belonging and acceptance and love.

I want ... I want some Angela point-of-view, because Angela is awesome and I love her.
I also want Rusty and his experience of reading Narnia. Very very much. You utter monster.
