My livejournal and email were hacked: I am most terribly sorry if you followed any links given.

I am now back in control, thanks to several of my friends leaping to my aid. Thanks everyone for your patience!

I totally freaked when I hovered over the links and saw them for the wretched things that they were. Not to mention seeing the part about pulling down the LJ.

I have stopped wibbling now. All will be well!

When I read the post made by the hacker, I was skeptical because all links were shortened and in all your posts, you provide the whole link. What I hate (and I know you're feeling down right now) about what the hacker did is that s/he deleted all your posts here >.< Mother******.

I also clicked, and panicked when I saw Russian! One full computer check later and I am still, apparently, without malware. Poor you, how horrendous!

I figured it was a scam when I hovered over the links - I didn't realise they'd ACTUALLY deleted all your posts too! I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry! I don't know if this'll help, but... Sometime last year http://copperbadge.livejournal.com/ was hacked by, I think, almost certainly the same people - I recognise the link to weird Russian poetry - who deleted all the posts on the journal, and in the months afterward he wrote a lot of stuff about the process of recovering everything, and all the methods he used to do it, and how to stop the hackers getting in again. So if you're interested in trying to find some of the old posts (because I love your old posts) you should definitely have a look! Best wishes

Yup. I remember copperbadge getting hacked, which is the whole reason why I didn't click on the links right away. It looked like the same thing, and I didn't think Sarah would abandon us like that... :-/

I was quite happy to see that you had updated, then quite confused as I saw nothing else was on the page. Once I actually read the entry I was very sad. :(

We must obviously assume that the Russians are jealous of your awesome writing skills. This is the only conclusion that can be drawn here.

Ha, I was about to email you to tell you the journal had been hacked, but I see other good Samaritans got there before me. :D

I'm so sorry! :( I second the recommendation to use copperbadge's tag Picking up the Pieces http://copperbadge.livejournal.com/tag/picking+up+the+pieces

I thought it was odd that it was all so abrupt given how awesome you've been about working up to dates. :(

I can't believe they deleted all your posts! I'm so sorry, I loved all your posts =( I'm glad to hear you're back in control though.

What a horrible, nasty thing to do. Especially with the timing of it. I hope you can get all your posts back, and get back to flailing/swooning about the book launch instead!
May. 25th, 2009 12:11 pm (UTC)
Yeah, the timing makes me suspect deliberate malice, which sucketh enormously, but so it goes.

Huh, so that's what happened. I was much confused when I saw the russian poetry.

I'm so sorry that your lj got hacked. Asses abound on the internet unfortunately.
May. 25th, 2009 12:10 pm (UTC)
... why would they have even wanted to hack you. I'm sorry, I hope you can recover everything.
May. 25th, 2009 12:11 pm (UTC)
Gah, some people are awful. Glad to see you back at the helm!
May. 25th, 2009 12:13 pm (UTC)
Aha, so that answers the question I sent you! (though I kind of liked option 3).

Sorry you got stung by the hackers - I hope everything is recoverable.
