‘A Very Special Announcement’

All my life, I've had three ambitions.

Of course, one of them was to invent and popularise a game called paintbucket. Think about it - Paintball is a cruel, sadistic game which involves shooting balls of paint at helpless innocents, but paintbucket? A field full of people laughing and splashing each other with little buckets of paint until both people and field are multi-coloured? You know it would be awesome.

The second ambition was - No, you guys. I can't even joke. Because the truth is I've only ever really wanted one thing in my life, and now I have it.

This is an excerpt from a magazine called Publisher's Weekly.

Sarah Rees Brennan's debut urban fantasy trilogy (young adult), starting with THE DEMON'S LEXICON, about two brothers hunted throughout England by a powerful magician's circle after their mother steals a charm and when the eldest is marked by a demon, the younger uses swords and dark arts in an effort to save him but unwittingly uncovers the darkest of secrets, sold to Karen Wojtyla at Margaret K. McElderry Books, by Kristin Nelson at Nelson Literary Agency

I am so happy. I am laughing and crying and firmly convinced that it's a dream. I will tell you guys more later, but for now... Who's for champagne? Or paintbucket?

On the day after your publication, I'm re-posting my original reaction (I just found a copy in my inbox):

...I just squeeeeeeeee!!'d so loudly I woke my dog, who was sleeping upstairs. And then I ran upstairs to call a friend of mine, who> is also a fan of yours.

That is. So. Seriously. AWESOME!!!!!!!

Congratulations. We always knew you were made of awesome, but it's nice to know that the publishing world knows this too.

Also, I must start this paintbucket craze of yours with my friends here in Australia. It sounds fun. Have fun celebrating, you more than deserve this.

Sarah, nearly two years have passed since this original post, and now instead of being a soon-to-be-published author, you are a real, live, published authoress. It seems surreal to me that the fic writer I read when I was twelve is now taking the publishing world by storm, I can only imagine how it must feel for you.

I still think that you're made-of-awesome, and can't wait for my copy of the book to arrive. I think I'll probably end up insanely stroking the cover just to reassure myself that it's really real.

Enjoy all of the success that's sure to come your way, you deserve every last bit.
