So to open with the bad news, sales are steady but missed the mark, so we will not have Part 2 of
Sorcerer and Stone this week. With luck, next week! Tell all your friends, family and genetically modified household pets who know how to read.

And now for the good news!

The winner of the Demon's Lexicon Thanks for Linking Back Prize Pack is inbedwithbooks - email me at sarahreesbrennan@gmail.com with your address for shiny knife charm, books and all.

The winner of Shiver is wednesdayschild.

And the winner of Ice is lotuseyes. Both of you email me with your addresses at sarahreesbrennan@gmail.com as well!

For those who did not win but really liked the sound of Ice, Sarah Beth Durst is giving away another copy here.

PSA to all jonesing Australians: The Demon's Lexicon is already on shelves at Kino's and Galaxy.

And to the rest of you, who kindly did not point out that uh, I put up a post that said 'Happy July' on the last day in June, I was... uh... totally testing you. Yeah, that's it.

But today is July, and we decided to give out one free signed book a day as well at the two seven-book prize pack, starting with Saundra Mitchell's Shadowed Summer, so escaping with the Seven could work out well for you.

Good news for me this week: The Demon's Lexicon trilogy just sold in Israel! Hooray, demons in the Holy Land!

More good news for me: I got two more Starred Reviews. I am so pleased the people reading Demon's Lexicon are liking it! The reviews are generally full of spoilers, but here are snippets:

Give this to horror and fantasy fans alike, but don't give away the ending - Bulletin, Starred Review

Even teens who don’t consider themselves genre buffs will appreciate the solid writing, fast-paced plot, and sense of authenticity that Brennan gives to the shadowy world between ordinary, modern-day London and the otherworld of demons and magicians. Readers will clamor for the next book in this trilogy. - School Library Journal, Starred Review

I have performed the Dance of Stars. Small breakable objects in my house have met their doom.

And some more stuff for you guys: you might notice the truly awesome icon I am using, which is made by the fabulous orexisbella. There are more extremely cool icons and wallpapers up here now!

One of which is now mine.

It inspired this conversation between me and my poor agent.

SARAH: ... Ask Simon & Schuster if I can have Tyler's (cover model's name is Tyler) number.
KRISTIN: I certainly will not, shameless girl. I know why you want it.
SARAH: Or his email address, that would be fine too.
KRISTIN: I know exactly what this is about, and your behaviour is ENTIRELY INAPPROPRIATE.
SARAH: But I just know having him in a kissing booth at my signings would be wonderful for sales!
KRISTIN: Dear Sarah, try to be less of a pimp, you do not have the chest hair for it.
KRISTIN: I'm going to go now.
SARAH: My genius is so misunderstood.

...you know, if you could also get the cover models from City of Bones or Glass that could make your events with Cassie very interesting.

I'm just saying.

*laughs* I'd be there for that kissing booth!
Jul. 1st, 2009 05:52 pm (UTC)
... who is Tyler?
Jul. 1st, 2009 05:53 pm (UTC)
My question exactly.

Yes, Sarah, you're right: your genius is sadly misunderstood. Why doesn't anyone else see that a kissing booth would definitely increase your sales? Because it totally would.
Jul. 1st, 2009 06:07 pm (UTC)
Ooh, kissing booth! That is a wonderful idea! You should direct Kristin to this page where everyone agrees that the kissing booth really, really would work :)

Also, Sarah's fans are all hot, right? Tyler would not be disappointed.
Jul. 1st, 2009 06:13 pm (UTC)
Well, I imagine your ingenuity would certainly revolutionize the reading population everywhere.
Jul. 1st, 2009 06:14 pm (UTC)
Awww, no part 2? Well, I'll stay tuned and will be excitedly waiting for it!

Congratulations to all of the winners and also to you for selling the book in Israel. :)
Jul. 1st, 2009 06:16 pm (UTC)
Well, no part two this week. ;) The rules were clear from the start!

Thank you for the congratulations!

I think a lot of kids would be locked up if the parental units found that there was a kissing booth.
Jul. 1st, 2009 08:33 pm (UTC)
I, personally, think that would be because the parental units would not want the competition in the kissing booth. You know. Judging from Tyler's looks, at least.

(also - sorry for the comment hijacking!)

Do they already have a Hebrew translator for you? Do you know which pubnlisher it is (so I can beg for the job in case they don't)?

Your agent is entirely mistaken! I would so boy your book if I could but get a peck on a cheek from Tyler! YOU MUST GET HIS NUMBER! IT'S ESSENTIAL FOR THE EXISTENCE OF THE UNIVERSE!!!
Jul. 2nd, 2009 01:43 am (UTC)
"I would so boy your book..." Was this, perhaps, a freudian slip?? ; )

I was checking out the page for the Japanese edition of DL the other day, and I noticed two things.

1) The subtitle kind of gives away one of the twists, since it's 'The Magician's Son'.

2) There's only one review so far, but it's a glowing one by someone who bought the book because they loved the cover and ending up loving the book. ^_^
Jul. 1st, 2009 06:39 pm (UTC)
1) Well, Olivia is a magician, so not really. ;)

2) Aw, yay! Thank you for telling me and checking - I am going to Japan in September, and so looking forward to it!

Well, finally the library budgets here have been cleared (and librarians have remembered my stock request from months ago) so copies have been ordered for here, so that should boost sales by a couple or so :) (I have no idea on actual quantity yet)

it *is* marketing genius though! I mean if E3 (electronics Expo) can have booth babes to market their video games, why can't authors have their hot cover models market their books on tour? Heck isn't that what Stephenie Meyer did technically? I mean not cover models, but at a bunch of her launch parties she had those guys who pretended to be Edward and Jacob!

Should we start a petition? Letter campaign?

and squee I e-mailed you! thank you!!
Jul. 1st, 2009 11:28 pm (UTC)
hehe, I agree we should start a letter campaign. :D

congrats on the holy land sales! and double congrats on the lovely starred reviews - how wonderful that must feel!

also - definitely marketing genius, even if no one else sees it as such. perhaps you could merely make it a hugging booth to dull the shock of the plan. i'd go for it. :)

btw - wanted to thank you for the book recs and also for making me aware of so many great new authors - am loving sarah beth durst's books :)
Jul. 2nd, 2009 12:14 am (UTC)
Thank you for the congratulations, and I am so pleased you're enjoying!
Jul. 1st, 2009 07:06 pm (UTC)
Oooo...that wallpaper made my insides go all mushy. I think a kissing booth would be a great marketing venture. A free kiss with every book purchase. Then you can charge for every extra kiss. Really, is there a downside at all??? I see none.

Just finished your book for the second time last night. I think (even though I was sure it wasn't possible) it was an even better read this time.

Also, I complained to my local library that they didn't have your book. The librarian said she'd see what she could do. :)
Jul. 2nd, 2009 01:53 am (UTC)
Excellent, I thank you. ;) And I am pleased the reread was fun!
