This Is Not A Real Update

I am perfectly aware I owe you all real updates! Next week, I promise you: the second part of Sorcerer and Stone and also a Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie parody. I may also be doing a follow-up to my Ladies, Please! essay as I have recently been having Further Thoughts on that subject.

This follow-up can mostly be summarised in my tweet (and yes, I am on twitter at www.twitter.com/sarahreesbrenna and I LOVE IT, even though they cruelly deny me the last letter of my name) which goes 'Why do I almost never hear complaints that a guy in books/movies is too attractive and awesome?' And well, yes, I am aware a lot of readers are girls and thus like the guy being alluring (see also my childhood spent imagining myself as Mrs Colin Craven. Or Sarah Rees Craven. Sarah Craven Rees Brennan?) but it seems people could embrace both sides of the equation being awesome more than they do!

I have been travelling about the country, and thus rather frantic.

Being at Comic Con was wonderful, and I met some amazing people: people I've known online for years, fabulous authors, exciting times! Christian Bale was eating chili cheese fries at the restaraunt at my hotel, people. My Brush With Fame! Actually my true Brush with Fame was the time I met George Clooney but that story is so embarrassing, I could never tell am saving it for a different blog post.

I was pretty convinced nobody would show up to my panel and signings as I am a teeny tiny author with a first book just out, but people did, and I was so thrilled: some of them even brought me presents! Among other things I got a Demon's Lexicon Treasure Chest, a cuddly zombie boyfriend, a cereal box with a picture of Nick fighting on it, and something so awesome I must show you in picture form.

Which is not to say, wow, check out my STUFF, but rather, wow, check out how awesome the people I met were. THAT AWESOME.

When my time in San Diego was done, I tripped merrily off to the airport, where the world proceeded to fall around my ears.

AIRPORT: Your flight is cancelled!
SARAH: Oh dear. Can I have a new one?
AIRPORT: Yes, it will take you to Texas!
SARAH: Oh dear. Can I have a flight to New York?
AIRPORT: We'll see about that when you're in Texas, missy!

SARAH: Well, at least I have time to have breakfast.
AIRPORT: Here are some lovely eggs.
SARAH: I ordered lovely bacon. I am allergic to lovely eggs: they make me pass out.
AIRPORT: Enjoy your eggs, gotta go!

SARAH: *staggers off the last in a series of planes* Finally, my beautiful New York!
BEAUTIFUL NEW YORK AIRPORT: Did you want your suitcase? It'll be along in two hours.
SARAH: ... I'm going to my hotel.

My hotel saved the day by being unexpectedly and dazzlingly beautiful. Seriously, I chose it for inexpensiveness, and it has a kitchen and a living room I dance around in.

I was also comforted by writing in a New York cafe and eating the exotic and mysterious meatloaf again! And then I tripped off to blackholly's beautiful house in Massachusetts, where I spent my time alternating between love and fear for her cat.

Lily is a hairless cat. She looks kind of like a demon. She has a long naked tail she whips around, and everyone was endlessly amused by the fact that when she chases me, I run screaming.

But when you put her in a little blue jumper, she is suddenly so cute! It was all very confusing.

LILY: stares
SARAH: Oh feline mistress, I bow to your every whim! Do not hurt me nor devour my immortal soul.
LILY: Souls, om nom nom.
HOLLY: whisks on jumper
SARAH: Diddums whoza sweet kitty you are Lily yes you are say hello to aunty sarah.
LILY: I am enraged by this disrespect!
HOLLY: whisks jumper off
SARAH: Forgive me dark queen, I do not know what I was saying, I must have been feverish, as penance I offer up my soul.
LILY: *purr* Souls. Om nom nom.

So the main point of my post (Point? You all say. There's a point?) was to remind you all of this going-on:

Tomorrow, Sunday August 2nd

Books of Wonder, 1.00 pm - 3.00 pm, Sunday August 2nd. Books of Wonder, 18 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011.

Sarah Signing, Reading, Giveaway, Appearance of Awesome! Hope to see you there.

And another thing: The Eternal Kiss, which contains my vampire boy band story Undead Is Very Hot Right Now and is my very first anthology, is on shelves now. And in paperback, for those who have Hardcover Policies. For those curious, you can find summaries and mini-reviews of all the stories here.

I felt she had the Mae demeanour down too. I was dazzled!

I hope the parody will not disappoint.

I am endlessly sad that I do not live in New York, yet, and I do believe this is one of the most terrible blows.

Well, don't be sad, I've had my share of hotels in New York but I still prefer hotels near Washington DC they are cozier and quieter. I think if we look closer we could find beautiful inspiring hotels all over the plane, in places we never heard of.

Is it weird that I think the cat sounds cuter without the jumper?
Aug. 1st, 2009 08:55 pm (UTC)
I wonder if the cute-blue-jumper effect would have worked on Voldemort?

HUZZAH HBP PARODY. I'm sad cause comic con is so far out of my (somewhat limited) reach. I'm gonna go demand more conventions in London. *evil plots/mutterings*

Tragically, I'm having my own plane issues. They wouldn't even let me on mine! D:

Thus, I will not be in BEAUTIFUL NEW YORK AIRPORT until Sunday night. I cannot tell you how heartbroken I am to be missing your event.

I don't suppose I could have a signed bookplate mailed to me? ;__;

Clearly the answer is to come back in October bearing even more things to be signed!

Can't wait for the HBP parody!

Anyway, I usually lurk but today I went to the English bookshop in Brussels (it's a lovely independent store) and your book was THERE. I got so excited I kept pointing and squealing and my friend was all 'Wut?'.
I almost bought it (even though I already have it) but money was an issue D:.

All this leaves me with just one burning question: is Christian Bale truly as gorgeous in person as he is on screen? Inquiring minds want to know!

Also I have long since given up being ashamed of liking Taylor Swift. Embrace it!

Christian Bale is a very attractive man.

My love is kind of out of control. Honestly you do not want to know how much of The Demon's Covenant was written listening to Fifteen alone. It is the sole soundtrack for a main character's storyline!

If you ever do a signing in Denver (and I am sure Tattered Cover would go for it) we'll have to get together and have Pink Drinks. :)
Aug. 1st, 2009 11:29 pm (UTC)
I'll be there as well. Am I mistaken or isn't your agent from Denver as well? *sends mind-bending rays across the intarweb* *gears up for pink drinks*

But watch, you'll come when I'm in Europe checking out Japanese rock bands. Even though I've been on your flist for effin' ever. *resigns self to never meeting you but being very interested in meeting your semi-famous brother.*

Ah! It is me. It is a good thing that walking around like that at Comic-Con burned away the last vestiges of my modesty, so I can no longer blush.

And I cannot believe you thought nobody would show up. There were so many Marmfishes in line! (so many=about half a dozen)

And huzzah for more tiny Gerald! I will finally be able to finish my ffic.
Aug. 1st, 2009 09:32 pm (UTC)

Allergic to eggs, you say? How terrible! Or is it only eggs in their natural form and not eggs as ingredients in other things (say, brownies or cakes and the like)?

Also, will you be signing things other than books? Or only books?
Aug. 1st, 2009 09:35 pm (UTC)
I will sign whatever, though people ripping open their shirts and asking me to sign their chests, maybe once was enough. ;)

Nah, it's only eggs in their natural form, and stuff like quiche: I am totally okay to eat cake. (Thank heavens!)
Aug. 1st, 2009 09:51 pm (UTC)
Am so excited! And even my brother shall be coming, since I kindly forced the book upon him. He was very impressed that it was your first work, and how we got to hear the tale from Nick's perspective.
Aug. 1st, 2009 10:01 pm (UTC)
I'm so glad you posted! Not only because you're hilarious and witty but because I've decided to be spontaneous and travel to New York for the day tomorrow! And come to the signing, of course. Figured I should make that clear. :D (Well, it's not that crazy. I'm outside of Philadelphia, so it's only a train ride away. But still, points, right?)
Aug. 2nd, 2009 06:20 am (UTC)
Total points! You must tell me who you are, so you can have one of the (extremely limited, due to Shipping Disasters) number of copies of Demon's Covenant Chapter One.

This is too a real update! I am glad you had fun at comic con! Also I had questions about book signings. Will you be coming anywhere near Tucson Arizona? I know you said you were going to do a signing in California in october, but if you are coming closer to me I would prefer to see you there. Thanks much! Also I loved your story in the eternal kiss you can find a mini review here http://narutootaku.livejournal.com/27136.html

I don't know yet, but I promise I will announce when I do! And I am thrilled you liked the story.
Aug. 1st, 2009 10:16 pm (UTC)
I'm glad you've (mostly) been having a good time Stateside! I am looking forward to this George Clooney story. XD Wish I could come to your signing but, alas, am in the Midwest. *sigh* Alas for not having a personal jet, or something of that variety, to magically whisk me wherever I want to go... XD

I bought your book and read it in a day. I loved it - it's a fantastic read. I'm recommending it to my friends, who are all lovers of occult books. :D

The Mae costume is brilliant! It looks quite similar to how I pictured her!
