The Demon's Lexicon

Oh, you guys. Oh, you guys, I am so terrified.

So rejacketing a book is a very scary thing, because a) It means the whole series look has been totally changed! So the two sequels are going to look this way and b) It seems people did not like the old cover - oh please please please let them like this one!

I feel exceedingly lucky to have a lovely publisher, Simon & Schuster, who did not just say 'Oh well, Sarah RB, clearly a bust, next please' but who hired The Illustrious James Porto to make new covers for me.

And I feel even more lucky that when I went peeping to them with suggestions, and to my friends for thoughts, my publishers and friends both listened. (Which publishers in no way have to do. If they wanted a purple spacemonkey on my cover, they could have one no matter what I said! They are just very kind.) Especial thanks go to my friend Saundra Mitchell, whose artistic input was invaluable.

And this new cover is very different and dynamic and dramatic! And I think it has the feel of the book down, and - well, I will leave you to JUDGE FOR YOURSELVES.

In short, I hope you guys like it! *closes eyes and presses post*

Dark! Scary! Action!

Certainly more representative. Good show.

A little less conversation, a little more action please, is where I see Nick to be perennially at, yeah. ;)

I DO like this one better. Je ne sais quoi as to why though. Realism maybe?

NICE. I LIKE IT. I LIKE IT A LOT. I think it more accurately conveys what goes on between your covers. Congrats!

Oh whoa, looking at the high resolution image, I thought, "CryBaby!Johnny Depp?"

Okay, shallowness aside, I really do think this is great. Guess what I'm gifting my baby brother now?

Oooooh, very atmospheric! Captures the tone of the novel much better.

Although, I was quite fond of U.S. cover boys smoochy lips . . .

But I stand by my earlier comment that this cover is more appropriate! And made of awesome.

Hi :)
I really like the new cover.
If I was browsing through the bookstore it would definitely catch my attention. Just based on the cover I'd pick it up.
Thanks for sharing the cover Sarah!
All the best,
Rob

I like the darker, less cluttered, more serious look.
Also, it would make an excellent movie poster! When is the film coming out? :)

I am evilly tempted to make eyeliner comments, but yes, this one is more vigorous, ominous and lonely, and so fits the story better. Nice work, James Porto!

I did like the first cover, and found it very pretty! But I do feel this one is more true to Nick's nature. Also, his eyes are a bit crazy, which is pretty Nick-appropriate! And this one looks more likely to draw in readers of both genders, whereas I think boy readers would be a bit shifty about pouty-Nick of the first cover. Though YA has a girl-dominated readership, but I think they shall be very pleased with this Nick too! He reminds me a bit (in his stance and clothes) of Spike from Buffy - which is oddly fitting in my mind, though I don't know exactly how. Maybe because of the struggle between humanity and demon..ity.

Also, you have an "Author of" line now! Because there's TWO! YAY!

(Does this mean we get a Mae one in this style as well? Because that would be super-cool! Her pink hair superimposed against a dark background would certainly be eye-catching!)

Actually, Sin is going to be on the cover of Covenant, but in this style, yes. ;) Her hair is sadly not pink, but I hope you will like it anyway!

And I had a Terrible Crush on Spike in my Buffy years, so I am pleased!
