The Demon's Lexicon

Oh, you guys. Oh, you guys, I am so terrified.

So rejacketing a book is a very scary thing, because a) It means the whole series look has been totally changed! So the two sequels are going to look this way and b) It seems people did not like the old cover - oh please please please let them like this one!

I feel exceedingly lucky to have a lovely publisher, Simon & Schuster, who did not just say 'Oh well, Sarah RB, clearly a bust, next please' but who hired The Illustrious James Porto to make new covers for me.

And I feel even more lucky that when I went peeping to them with suggestions, and to my friends for thoughts, my publishers and friends both listened. (Which publishers in no way have to do. If they wanted a purple spacemonkey on my cover, they could have one no matter what I said! They are just very kind.) Especial thanks go to my friend Saundra Mitchell, whose artistic input was invaluable.

And this new cover is very different and dynamic and dramatic! And I think it has the feel of the book down, and - well, I will leave you to JUDGE FOR YOURSELVES.

In short, I hope you guys like it! *closes eyes and presses post*

OMG! Nick! He doesn't look like an American girl! (Or Miley Cyrus's ex-boyfriend, Justin Gaston!!!!)

I like it! I also think it's not too embarrassing for a young boy to pick up! Well done, cover people!

It's still just a trifle too lurid and childish for my tastes, but it is much much better, and represents your story far more accurately. I am so glad you were able to get this change!

*squints* Lurid? It's grey... However, I am glad you feel it is an improvement!

The British cover is still my favourite, but this one seems like it would be more appealing to the YA crowd.

I don't know what the paperback text is - that kind of thing tragically not up to me! But I'm glad you like the cover. ;)

I would make an intelligent comment, but I am distracted by how much Nick reminds me of a young Johnny Depp! WITH A SWORD.

It's an improvement. Looks less like YA romance and more like YA action, plus this guy doesn't look so much like Tom Welling thus there will be fewer people buying it thinking it's a Smallville book.

Which is not to say that happened to me at all. Just hypothetically...

that is one rad looking sword!

....also the guy is pretty cute too, what with his crazy eyes and cool jacket.

Ooh, I really like it! I think this one is better, I love the action-y stance, the sword, the awesome dramatic background and the red title! I also think that this one is more likely to appeal to boys than the original one, as well as girls (the Johnny Depp comparison is very apt)

It looks AWESOME! I think the quote by Scott Westerfield on the front is really appropriate given the vortex and everything going on in the background. :P

No worries, Sarah! :D

Ahh I am sitting in the very hush-quiet library surrounded by people essay writing, and just got many furious looks when I clicked and accidentally said very loudly 'OH I LIKE IT. I LIKE IT A LOT!'

I'm a little sad the awesome font from the previous cover is gone, but all the awesome (I am a little scared that this guy is finally making me start to understand what all the fuss is about Nick. I was determined to be unusual and give my heart wholly to Alan, unswayed by dark and mysterious brooding types! But this Nick has such sexy hands!) of sexy Nick and the grey and brooding atmosphere and the sword totally get the lost points back. :D

I think it is beautiful. And three people who came to tell me off for being loud would like to agree with me!
