The Demon's Lexicon

Oh, you guys. Oh, you guys, I am so terrified.

So rejacketing a book is a very scary thing, because a) It means the whole series look has been totally changed! So the two sequels are going to look this way and b) It seems people did not like the old cover - oh please please please let them like this one!

I feel exceedingly lucky to have a lovely publisher, Simon & Schuster, who did not just say 'Oh well, Sarah RB, clearly a bust, next please' but who hired The Illustrious James Porto to make new covers for me.

And I feel even more lucky that when I went peeping to them with suggestions, and to my friends for thoughts, my publishers and friends both listened. (Which publishers in no way have to do. If they wanted a purple spacemonkey on my cover, they could have one no matter what I said! They are just very kind.) Especial thanks go to my friend Saundra Mitchell, whose artistic input was invaluable.

And this new cover is very different and dynamic and dramatic! And I think it has the feel of the book down, and - well, I will leave you to JUDGE FOR YOURSELVES.

In short, I hope you guys like it! *closes eyes and presses post*

I like it! Very atmospheric. I think it sums up the novel perfectly, gives you a good indication of the tone. Though I have always been a fan of black and red. *strokes UK Nick cover* : )

I really liked the old US cover, so I was a bit afraid of clicking, but WOW. Holy hotness, Batman! That fits the book so, so much better.

And now I have to buy another copy. How terrible =)

YES! I THOROUGHLY APPROVE! Your publishers win one million good karma points.

Haha he's wearing skinny jeans!! And his hair!! He looks like he should be in a band! With eyeliner ;) His bother can play the bass, the badass girl can be tge drummer, and her brother and Nick can play guitars and share vocal/screaming duty!

Much, much better. Speaking as someone who quite liked the old cover, but from an artist viewpoint -- the old one didn't give the right TONE. The guy was cute, the background fit quite well, but it was too bright and cheerful to really suit Nick. ;)

(I sort of have the English edition, myself.)

Far, far better and likely to get the non-Twlilight loving crowd in, i.e. boys!

I hated the original US cover (too girly, Just 17 wet dream material) but then I tend to dislike US cover in the main in many genres.

It's wicked and now I have to get a third copy of your book!

HA! THUNDER AND SWORDS AND LONG MATRIX-Y COATS! I love it, Sarah, much more Lexicon-like. :) Nick looks both worried and deadly, and can I just say that I love the model's right hand? Rawr ;)

bad ass
i think the cover is much more badass...it will probably appeal to older readers better. also, since your book is winning awards it is totally their fault for marketing it wrong. :-p

YES. Oh my gosh, YES. If that had been the cover at first I wouldn't have had any trouble getting my boy to read it. And that's way closer to what I think Nick looks like.

Is this a different jacker for the hardcover or is it the paperback cover? Shoot, that means I need to get money so I can buy it, doesn't it...

This is the paperback cover, out in April. I am exceedingly pleased you like it!

Ooh he's pretty!! I do quite like the pose and the ravens and the tornado and the RUINS! I ♥ ruins! I have no problems at all with the old cover but this is very nice. And am excited to see what happens with Sin now!

A young Johnny Depp indeed!

The U.K. cover will forever be my favorite for DL but I like this one a lot! Quite a bit more than the first one actually (not that I didn't like it originally!)

I'm a little sad to hear that Mae won't be on the cover but I'm curious to see what Sin looks like so it's cool. Especially if it gives us an Alan cover third book! :D
Any word on when we can see the US second book cover?

'Fraid not, I've been on tenterhooks for a week and a half waiting to see the sort-of-maybe-finalisedish Covenant cover.

*tenters on hooks*

I do love this one better, but Oh! my heart will not truly be content until you have the non-figurative/awesome-graphic-design cover you deserve!

*crosses fingers and awaits the omnibus* :D

Now I have to buy this version, too, so that when I get the rest of the series, everything matches. Because everything has to match.
