The Demon's Lexicon

Oh, you guys. Oh, you guys, I am so terrified.

So rejacketing a book is a very scary thing, because a) It means the whole series look has been totally changed! So the two sequels are going to look this way and b) It seems people did not like the old cover - oh please please please let them like this one!

I feel exceedingly lucky to have a lovely publisher, Simon & Schuster, who did not just say 'Oh well, Sarah RB, clearly a bust, next please' but who hired The Illustrious James Porto to make new covers for me.

And I feel even more lucky that when I went peeping to them with suggestions, and to my friends for thoughts, my publishers and friends both listened. (Which publishers in no way have to do. If they wanted a purple spacemonkey on my cover, they could have one no matter what I said! They are just very kind.) Especial thanks go to my friend Saundra Mitchell, whose artistic input was invaluable.

And this new cover is very different and dynamic and dramatic! And I think it has the feel of the book down, and - well, I will leave you to JUDGE FOR YOURSELVES.

In short, I hope you guys like it! *closes eyes and presses post*

You know, I dunno if I would have liked that? I worry covers with more than one person on them look crowded. How to square this with my crazy love for my Japanese cover, I don't know, but I like the lonely and atmospheric look here that could not be achieved with superfluous redheads cluttering up the shop. ;) Anyway we're talking Alan for book three, so he can have his very own! Maybe.

Well, Japanese covers tend to be busier in general than American, from what I can tell, and also, HELLO YOUR COVER DESIGN WAS DONE BY ARUKAWA, if I were you I would still be falling down in shock. But! You're right--the theme of Nick's isolation is captured so well here. I love how everyone is comparing the model to young Johnny Depp--I can see that but my honest first thought was, hey, Heathcliff!

Also, please continue standing firm in your love for Taylor Swift. I AM LISTENING TO YOU BELONG WITH ME RIGHT NOW VIA YOUTUBE, LET US BOND.
