Beautiful Creatures Contest & Links

Links of Importance: con_or_bust is a fundraiser to assist people of color who want to attend WisCon. Bidding on the auction will run from Wednesday, February 22, 2010 (12:01 a.m. Eastern), through Saturday, March 13, 2010 (11:59 p.m. Eastern). You may post auction offers and make donations now. I have made a donation, and wish I could think of something to auction off besides, you know, my liver. Which given that it's an Irish liver, probably would not fetch that high a price...

Links of Enjoyment: I may have discovered a new favourite hobby: watching vids for my book. They have reduced me to incoherent glee. I have forced all my friends to watch them and begged them to help me choose.

Check out these links to the lovely lists of fic, vids and art so far in the Demon's Covenant contest - everyone, you all being so talented is making choices very difficult for me! Contest runs on until February 26th.

Links of Winning a Very Cool Thing: Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the authors of BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, are on their way to Seattle, Chicago & the Bay area for the second leg of their book tour. They are hosting a special contest in honour of the tour, and I'm part of it. The winner of the BEAUTIFUL CREATURES: Unlock the Curse Contest will win the magical object that brought Ethan and Lena together in the novel... Genevieve's locket. (Kami made this herself!)

Information from DEMON'S LEXICON will be used to solve one of the clues to unlock a challenge in the contest. Here is the complete list authors participating in the contest and their books, in the order in which the clues will be given:

WICKED LOVELY by Melissa Marr
TITHE by Holly Black
CITY OF BONES by Cassandra Clare
SHIVER by Maggie Stiefvater
THE DEMON'S LEXICON by Sarah Rees Brennan
RAMPANT by Diana Peterfreund.

A most excellent list, is it not? I am honoured to be in such company, and also honoured as I think Beautiful Creatures is a rad book. And I thought you guys who have read Demon's Lexicon (and are thus my favourite people in the world) might like to have a heads-up that you could win booty with your learnings.

So come back to this blog to find a clue that will help unlock one of the six challenges, and good luck Unlocking the BEAUTIFUL CREATURES Curse!

Not A Link, But A Question: I was glad the February cookie was well liked! For the March cookie from Demon's Covenant, let me know what you guys might like to see. Minor characters, major characters, action scenes, make-out scenes, flashbacks, whatever: I aim to please.

Thank you so much for supporting con_or_bust, Sarah. Will I be seeing you at WisCon?

My pleasure. I should love to say yes and indeed almost had a place reserved, but then it seemed like the dates for UK appearances and an awards ceremony may conflict: I still might make it, and if so, hope to see you there, but it is all up in the air!

let me know what you guys might like to see.

More Nick! :D

More Alan of course! Alan! Alan! Alan! You should know that at first that was a string of Alan's but it looked very odd.
Flashbacks are always cool too :)

I wish my library had a copy of Rampant so I could actually participate in this challenge. And finally get a chance to read the book itself.

I support organ donation, but only of organs that are not needed by the donor!

Thanks for linking to con_or_bust!

Cookie-wise, it'd be nice to hear about Jamie.

This challenge thing sounds confusing. I've read about it in a couple of places and still don't really understand it. I guess I'll wait and see.

I second this...plus make-outs! Everybody loves a good make-out scene, right?
Feb. 21st, 2010 03:41 am (UTC)
Oooh, that is a pretty cameo.
Feb. 21st, 2010 05:16 am (UTC)
I'd like to request a Jamie-flavoured cookie!

And this contest sounds like fun, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to read the rest of the necessary books in time. But that doesn't mean I won't try! ;)

I'm always a fan of makeout scenes, but action scenes run a close second. ^_^

Ee, a Beautiful Creatures contest!

BC is one of the best books (with one of the most believable teen romances) I've read recently.

*is choked with glee*

That is an amazing collection of books. I always fear that when my favourite books are compiled in a list by someone else that I am being far too predictable. : ) I would enter TDC contest, but I really don't want to force my "creativity" on anyone. LOL!

Ooh! Ooh! *jumps up and down eagerly* I would like to put a vote in for a Jamie cookie. With added babbling, I love it when he babbles. *hugs him* (Just thought, I may like babbling because I can relate... I shall look into this further! Hehe!)

Can we have a scene in which Jamie makes out? I feel there is not enough of this happening (:

(with Gerald or Seb would be my pairings of choice... but I understand Team Seb is pretty much entirely composed of Isi and myself (: )
Feb. 21st, 2010 03:04 pm (UTC)
It is sad to see that there are two votes for it, as this is something I cannot provide! Jamie only has one make-out scene in the book, and thus it seems wrong to waste it in a cookie. (One's sister does not usually supervise the making out, you see...)

I am going to try to do something a little different, so instead of asking for a cookie of bb Seb (or Jamie or Nick or Gerald being hot and awesome as is my default reaction...) to celebrate all this talk of awesome female characters around the place, and my finally finding out what the Bechdel test is, could we see a cookie with Sin please?
Feb. 21st, 2010 06:32 pm (UTC)
I'd love to see a scene with Nick and Alan. Every other cookie with them has been so beautifully painful, when they don't click like they used to, like "Oh...what...why? BUT I LOVE YOU BOTH!!!!!"
please, m'am, I want some more :)

Me too! Me too! I want to see Nick and Alan too!

I'm new to LJ, so I'm not really sure how to shoot you a message, so I guess this will have to do.

I really enjoyed all the fan fictions you used to write, and I wonder if any of them are still available to read. Drop Dead Gorgeous was my favourite, and I'd really love to read it again. And of course, I'm looking forward to reading your book as well when I have some free time :)
Feb. 21st, 2010 10:14 pm (UTC)
No, I have deleted them all, and don't have them myself. Sorry to disappoint! But on the up side, in the free time not reading the stories, you can read the book. :)

a fundraiser to assist people of color who want to attend WisCon

Is there something I'm missing, here? Are they not allowed to attend this con or something? I am so confused.
Feb. 22nd, 2010 01:34 pm (UTC)
No, they are allowed (gosh how awful it would be if they weren't!) but in debates about fans of colour and how they're sometimes dismissed/not made welcome, it arose last year as something people could do both to increase visibility so everyone knows they ARE there, and to show they are welcome.
