So let me speak briefly of author appearances. I like doing them! I like attending them too: I enjoy heckling from the audience. If you are ever at an author signing and you see a tall vaguely Irish lady asking about inappropriate people making out, that is me! Come say hi.

But back to me doing them. I love it! Talking about books to people who showed up to see some talking about books? It is obviously awesome. I get very nervous of course, but claiming that it is not awesome would be like saying candy tangerines and rollercoasters are not awesome: patently untrue.

My very favourite thing is doing them with other authors. Partly of course this is because I fear people will not show up for just me, and it will be me in the bookshop with the tumbleweeds blowing by. (Occasionally, I would catch a tumbleweed and blow my nose with it.) Mostly it is because there is someone there to say intelligent things, and also I can have fun talking about their books.

small snippet of The October Tour With Scott Westerfeld
SARAH: Let me tell you who should make out in Scott's books! Wait... let me do an impression!
SCOTT: Silence miscreant!

Therefore I was very excited when Melissa Marr, aka melissa_writing, came to me and spoke to me sooth.

MELISSA: Sarah, you like things that are awesome, yes?
SARAH: Melissa, I love things that are awesome.
MELISSA: What say you to a group of authors of YA books, from many different publishers but united by awesome, going about the Americas and Canada like a travelling circus of awesome? What would you call that?
SARAH: I think I would call it awesome, Melissa.
MELISSA: We will call it the Smart Chicks Tour.

So, mark your calendars for awesome! (For those not in any of the areas, I will be doing Covenant stuff both sides of the ocean in May, and I have extremely exciting news about this also, but that is for another post.)

Here are the dates for all the author appearances. I have copied them all from melissa_writing, for I feel people who read this journal may like to go to feasts of awesome which I cannot attend! My bits are bolded.

I am coming to Arizona! And my pal Aprilynne Pike lives there, so she is always spreading her author-ly glow about the place! I am sure I will like Arizona. And I am so glad there will be someone there, hurrah!

You aren't coming to Toronto! You don't know how sad this makes me. ESPECIALLY if you are going to be dancing for the audience.

I wish I could, but I fear without switching out, we get arrested for being a private army. However, I am going to teach people the Smart Chicks Dance. Margi Stohl may be performing it as we speak!

Ooh, you're coming to Brampton! That's not ridiculously far away from me, which pleases me greatly. It is nice to see an Ontario location show up on one of these tours (we Canadians love you too :P). ^_^

And I love Canada! I have fond, fond memories of Vancouver and Montreal, and I intend to have other Canadian adventures one day.

I am likewise pleased by Brampton's not-ridiculously-farness!

Aw dangit, another book tour that doesn't have a stop within, um, at least 400 miles of me? CURSE YOU AMERICAN SOUTH AND YOUR AUTHOR SCARING ABILITIES. No wonder everyone makes a fuss when a local author is in town, they're the only ones we can get!

I have to say, I was really excited when I found out (my American geography is dire) Mississippi was in the South. I have never been, but I am excited to go, and would be excited to go anywhere in the South really. So perchance another time!

(Occasionally, I would catch a tumbleweed and blow my nose with it.)

I advise against this as tumbleweeds are rather dry and prickly.

However YAAAAAY Naperville - that's like almost Chicago and there MUST be a bus or something that goes there....*plots*

Oh please come to Chicago for Demon's Covenant!! I was really hoping you'd make it here for the Smart Chicks Tour. I totally said I'd go see you in Mississippi until, you know, I found out it was twelve hours away. T_T

I will weep if I miss out on the awesomeness that is you.

I am so manically excited that you're coming to Texas, it's ridiculous. Authors of awesome rarely come to my fair state and it makes me sad but you are and I will *totally* be there. And, since it's a week before my birthday, it's like my favourite authors are all giving me an early birthday present of awesomesauce!
