Smart Chicks!

So! Currently I am packing to go to the Americas on tour! Here's the Smart Chicks information again.

September 15th, 7PM. The Refuge (13150 Memorial Dr). Hosted by BLUE WILLOW, Houston, TX
Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, Alyson Noel, Holly Black, Sarah Rees Brennan, Margaret Stohl & Cassandra Clare

September 16th, 6 PM. Plantation Commons (105 Plantation Cove, Gluckstadt). Hosted by LEMURIA BOOKS, Jackson, MS
Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, Alyson Noel, Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, Jessica Verday & Sarah Rees Brennan

September 17th, 2010 7PM @ Scottsdale Civic Library Auditorium, hosted by POISONED PEN Phoenix, AZ
Melissa Marr, Alyson Noel, Kelley Armstrong, Holly Black, Sarah Rees Brennan, and Kimberly Derting

We just got word on some store policies to check out here.

The policies for the stores I'll be at:

Blue Willow's store policy: you have to buy a book to join the signing line.

Lemuria Books: for every one book you buy from Lemuria, you get two signed.

I'm not aware of a particular policy in Arizona, but for an event, always a good rule of thumb to buy a book there! Events are expensive for stores (staying open, setting up, paying staff overtime) so if people bring books from home and don't buy any, they make a loss and there are no more events! And in the case of the Smart Chicks, we have six or seven authors at each stop, some with many a novel, so finding a book you might like (and which will be in paperback, so not too costly) won't be too hard.

Also, look at this cool thing! You can print out Smart Chicks posters we will all sign! I like looking at the posters all blown up so I can see my Nick next to Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel cover, because the Clockwork Angel cover is like heaven with cake on the side.

Events! I just had a lovely one with Celine Kiernan, in which we ruthlessly spoiled our books for everyone, and I am excited for these upcoming events. (Hell, I am excited to meet Kelley Armstrong: I love her books like I love raspberry meringue - a lot.) Hope to see some of you there, and I am sure we'll have fun!

Clockwork Angel cover, because the Clockwork Angel cover is like heaven with cake on the side.

Isn't it just so?!

Have fun! None of your stops are near me and I would dearly love to meet Melissa Marr since I adore her Wicked Lovely series, but for now, I must be happy that I had the opportunity to meet you recently in Cincy. :D

You aren't happening by St. Louis MO any time soon, are you?

Well, Melissa plans a second Smart Chicks round, so maybe next year. ;)

I am not insofar as I know, which is sad because I have never been to St Louis and I'd like to go! Maybe next year again. ;)

And just yes on the Clockwork Angel cover. I think it may be the most beautiful cover I have ever seen: I'm so pleased it's on a book I love. (Nothing worse than a fabulously brilliant cover on a terrible book...)

Any chance of putting in a few /subtle/ hints to make the plans for next years tour to be international *coughAustraliacough* :)
Sep. 14th, 2010 01:22 am (UTC)
Hey, I'd looove to come to Australia. ;) I have heard no word of the Smart Chicks en masse, but I know Cassie is going down under in April!

You are most welcome to stay here. We have a lovely big spare bedroom and three or four smaller bookstores that would love to host you too I bet. Of course, you know that Jim and Shannon Butcher live here we're used to big crowds.

And we're very near everything that should be on the St. Louis tour.

You're very, very kind, thank you! I'd probably have to hit St. Louis as part of a tour so my publisher would have to set it up, but I will keep in mind you think there might be bookshops what would be willing to have me. ;) And thanks again!

Whoa, you're coming back to Houston?? And it's even closer to where I live - I'll be sure to come say hi. :)

Well, that's some short notice!

*blinks* I told y'all a month ago - http://sarahtales.livejournal.com/169928.html - this is just by way of being a reminder post. ;) I promise, I am not egotistical enough to click my fingers and say 'drop everything, I will be there in 24 hours!'
Sep. 14th, 2010 02:14 am (UTC)
Oh - sorry, I must have missed that post. Actually, I confess, after posting the ETA I paused and wondered if I didn't remember something about you coming here in September, but I thought that was the date that had been moved to May. Two different tours, it turns out! You are a traveling woman. :)
Sep. 14th, 2010 02:17 am (UTC)
I get around. ;)
Sep. 14th, 2010 05:47 am (UTC)
Not to whine but.....okay, hell with it, I'll whine. When are you coming to Floridaaaaaaa?

Or at least see if you can come to Dragon*Con next year in Atlanta. :D
Sep. 15th, 2010 02:50 am (UTC)
I came to Florida in July! ;)

I concur! We have culture and history and landmarks and such! Museums out the wazoo! Architectural feats of wonder! Plenty of places to become caffeinated and/or inebriated! Please?
Sep. 15th, 2010 02:51 am (UTC)
I would be delighted, but like the vampire, I can only be invited (by bookshops and so forth. ;))
Sep. 14th, 2010 12:12 pm (UTC)
I hope you like Blue Willow Bookshop. I find it to be quite cozy and inviting.

New York?!
I live in NY, not podunk no where, and I'm incredibly sorry to miss out on seeing you. Maybe your tour for the last in the trilogy can include the east coast. I'd offer to bake something for you but it's kinder if I don't. I will set about thinking of something to lure you up here.
Sep. 15th, 2010 02:52 am (UTC)
Re: New York?!
No luring of me needed, I am a leaf on the breeze, happy to be floated by my publishers anywhere! Though I think NY is hard to swing unless one is crazy popular, and I did do one event there in summer '09.
Sep. 15th, 2010 06:34 pm (UTC)
Re: New York?!
Oh well. I'm working on making you crazy popular so you can sign here. I picked up the books during a YA binge and I kept quoting Jamie until my friends bought the books. He and Alan are much adored on the East Coast.

Re: New York?!
I did not know about you in 2009! I only found Lexicon a few weeks before Covenant came out. They hid you from me. A YA novel with the focus between two brothers and not a brainless heroine with a big bad supernatural boyfriendbodyguard. It was like finding a diamond amongst a lot of pointy shards of glass. We'll count the scars of Twilight and Hush, Hush as badges of courage on my way to your books

So jealous that smart chicks don't kick it in the UK. *sad face of eternal doom* It sounds like one of the most amazing line ups ever created. One day. *crosses fingers*

I've met Kelley at a signing before, I fangirled and she was lovely and to punish her for that I made her sign a thousand books. *shuffles selfishly* Though I am now officially addicted to author signings. : )

Also, I totally agree about the Clockwork Angel cover. It is a piece of genius, nothing wrong there at all, just beautiful. Victorian London? Hot guys in hats? Promises of lantern lit streets and Demons? Yes please! : )
Sep. 15th, 2010 04:07 am (UTC)
Please come to Virginia!!!
Sep. 20th, 2010 12:48 am (UTC)
I wish I'd seen this sooner (I'm so lazy when it comes to following LJ.) Could have driven over.

If you'd like to come see Louisiana, my bookstore would love to have you. My manager will agree to anything if I harass her enough. :)
Sep. 20th, 2010 01:42 am (UTC)
I'd love to one day, thank you! ;)

Unrelated, since you won't be in the mid-Atlantic this time (sniffle) but I wanted to wish you a very happy birthday tomorrow (er, probably "today" by the time you read this).
