Unspoken Mix

Unspoken Mix from SRB on 8tracks.

Would you just look at what I did. This is a moment of proud technological achievement for me, folks.

I was asked twice about an Unspoken playlist in one day, and took this as a sign. Tah dah!

Explanations, and also other songs that I couldn't get on the playlist, below.

We should get jerseys, cause we make a good team – Must Have Done Something Right, by Relient K

(Kami Glass, and her determined creation of teams, and teamwork! Every girl reporter needs a street team.)

The more she ignores me the more I adore her – Just The Girl, by the Click Five

(Angela Montgomery Hates The World.)

It isn’t hard to love your scars, because that’s everywhere you’ve been – Be My Only, by FM Radio

(Jared Lynburn, human disaster. Do not let him get attached. Even if you are an inanimate object such as a book or house.)

I'm not perfect, but I keep trying
’Cause that's what I said I would do from the start – Perfect, by Hedley

(Ash Lynburn, conscientious soul, and the effort he puts in trying to be something he’s not.)

All the boys wanna catch me, but I’m just playing - Supergirl , by Saving Jane

(Holly Prescott, cheerful femme fatale. But also the other girls, too, now and then, when they’re on a roll.)

I got it all figured out
I got no worries that I’m worried about – Good To Be Me, by Uncle Kracker

(Rusty Montgomery’s life philosophy)

Are you gonna be like your father was and his father was?
Do you have to carry what they've handed down?
No, this is not your legacy, this is not your destiny – Family Tree, by Matthew West

(There’s a reason the series is called the Lynburn Legacy, and that’s because the Glass-Lynburn-Montgomery-Prescott Legacy was unwieldy. Everyone’s got a family, and terrible secrets that they don’t know—or even worse, they do—and there is always the spectre of history repeating itself.)

I’ve been keeping my mind wide open, yeah,
Oh your love is a symphony
All around me, running through me – Your Love Is A Song, by Switchfoot

(I know, I know, it’s a religious song, shame on me! But love of the invisible and yet surrounding, love of the dead but not forgotten, love and faith: it’s a theme.)

Half of my heart’s got a real good imagination, half of my heart’s got you – Half of my Heart, John Mayer and Taylor Swift

(Uncertainty about love, about how to define it, about the power of imagination. Also about my endless devotion to Taylor Swift.)

Wherever you go
If my heart was a house, you’d be home -- If My Heart Was A House, by Owl City

(The series is a lot about home, and what makes a home: a manor, a town, another person, you yourself.)

If you wanna slow down,

We can slow down together – Stay Here Forever, Jewel

(Specifics would be a spoiler. But I read the song as about the push and pull of a relationship, and the potential ease of it.)

Finally I'm worth it, though I'm not perfect – Best of Me, by the Letter Black

(Co-dependence, baby, and born romantics. Memo: my born romantics are almost always boys, and this almost always goes badly for them.)

She never let on how insane it was
In that tiny kind of scary house
By the woods – Black Dove, by Tori Amos

(The song for the Gothic novel, the woods and the house and the fear of madness.)

What about gold beneath the sea?
What about when buildings fall? What about that midnight phone call,
The one that wakes you from your peace?
Well, I am not in need. – What About Everything, by Carbon Leaf

(The theme song for the series, really: people are scared a lot, and running to each other’s rescue a lot through strange surroundings. Some of them are very damaged. But they’re strong people, too: they learn to be able to trust in their own strength.)

Whoawhoawhoawhoawhoawhoawait Jared Lynburn?!?! Isn't Jared... *goes to check in the first chapters* HE IS. DOES JARED'S LAST NAME NOT COUNT AS LIKE A HUGE SPOILER? I mean... are we supposed to know that? Do... do we already know that and I am making a huge fuss over nothing? I mean... I read them at YALLFest and I read them when you posted them recently and I feel like something like "Jared's last name is the same as the Mysterious Family's last name" would have stuck in my head. I feel like there is no way I could have missed all the IMPLICATIONS that that IMPLIES, had I known.

I... am a crazy person.

Random aside: Have you ever parodied Pride and Prejudice? Only I've never read it and there's a modern-day video-blog adaptation on Youtube which I am enjoying vastly (Charlotte Lu!) and I thought I might brush up on my canon by reading your parody (and also the actual book) if you did one. Because everybody knows Sarah-parodies (Sarahdies? YES) are the best window to understanding fiction.

Sarah has written numerous times that Jared's surname is Lynburn; it was also stated at the excerpt reveal on the Book Smugglers. And it's also in the book summary too. :)

So I am, in fact, a crazy person, and I have, in fact, managed to not realize something I really ought to have known.

Good to know, anyway! Thanks for telling me.
Apr. 18th, 2012 02:21 pm (UTC)
I am so sorry if you feel bespoiled! Jared's surname is implied in the flap copy so I did not think it was bespoiling, but it certainly does come as a surprise to Kami. ;)

I never have. I feel I perhaps love it too greatly.
Apr. 18th, 2012 02:28 pm (UTC)
I guess I really was just not paying enough attention. But it doesn't make me any less excited for the book! On the contrary, now I am even MORE excited to see how Jared actually fits in with... well, everything!
Apr. 18th, 2012 02:32 pm (UTC)
Eeeeexcellent. ;) It is not something Kami knows, so totally easy to miss! But I am glad you do not feel wronged and bespoiled.

Fantastic playlist, and well done with the technology!

Based on their theme songs, I feel that I will love Angela and Holly from the depths of my heart :)

I can't wait for Unspoken to come out! I'm so very eager to see how all the secrets and parent and siblings play significant roles in Unspoken; it's great cause I haven't really read much YA in which parents are also very important. Also am very curious to see Jared's "human disaster" self and how Ash is trying to be something's he's not. And the ladies! Can't wait to meet the trio of terrific ladies. :)
Apr. 19th, 2012 02:22 am (UTC)
Thanks for posting this. Downloaded the songs to my ipod so I can listen as I read :)

An upturned tortoise is the ninth most pathetic thing in the entire multiverse.*
User bending_sickle referenced to your post from An upturned tortoise is the ninth most pathetic thing in the entire multiverse.* saying: [...] Random: 's Music mix [...]

Awesome playlist:) And I especially appreciate the explanations. So, so psyched for this series!

I know, I know, it’s a religious song, shame on me! Would you mind explaining what the shame pertains to please?
Apr. 21st, 2012 04:40 am (UTC)
Er--just, you know, clarifying for the religiously minded in the audience that I meant no disrespect by thus comparing the love of a god to the love of a lowly mortal. ;)

Okay cool, it was a little ambiguous, and I was worried for a moment that the shame was in listening to/liking Switchfoot, and/or christian music, because Switchfoot is excellent and not to be ashamed of ;~p
Thank you for clarifying.

Yes! I started with Nolan (who doesn't love Nolan his dreamy eyes, his beautiful dark hair, his perfect figure,his- WOAH WOAH PATRICK SNAP OUT OF IT!) but found myself a little drawn to Jack because he is a lot like me. But, then at the end of Season 1 when the real Emily Thorne shows up and she is pregnant it shot me back to team Nolan. *waves jack flag until it snaps and waves Nolan flag*
